Tanks A Lot!

Oh, what a night! The winery was bustling last Friday evening as nearly 200 Gold Leaf Club members and guests were hosted at one of the most anticipated events of the year: Tank Tasting.

Even with the wind – the last of the heavy rain storms had miraculously just ended – when the doors opened at 7:00 p.m. Guests bantered about what wines would be on tap as they enjoyed a colorful Layton’s-made-to-order sunset.

Doors opened and there were Joe and Laura Layton, on hand to welcome everyone into their “home.” Jen’eral Manager, Jennifer Layton, shepherded everyone through registration, proffering wine glasses and name tags, thanking every member personally for their loyalty.

Wine glasses in hand, many made straight for the Tank Room to try some or all of nine offerings. Winemaker, William Layton,Layton's Chance Vineyard and Winery - Gold Leaf Club walked the line, talking with members about grape selection, flavor profiles and explaining the winemaking process. Members were treated to tastes of Vintner’s Reserve, Farm Red, Freedom (the sale of which benefits the Harriet Tubman Underground Rail Road Visitor Center), Rosé, Vidal Blanc, Joe’s Cool Red, Joe’s Cool White, and Layton’s private label White and Red wines.

Others went first for the buffet, a lovely display created by Vittles Catering, to sample hors d’oeuvres that included Swedish meatballs, bruschetta, peasant pockets, and elaborate cheese and fruit boards, as well as tasty desserts. Still others mingled with members of Team Layton.  Our Gold Leaf Club members love this event as it is a chance for our team to mingle with our loyal customers.

While the quarterly wine shipment is wonderful, being a Gold Leaf member means feeling a part of Layton’s Chance, a place where members are often recognized by name, and always with a smile. There are discounts on wine and products, and free and discounted tickets to a year’s worth of events. (Jen Layton estimates that, should a Gold Leaf member partake in every opportunity, they would receive more than three times their investment in freebies and discounts.)

But, as a famous credit card used to say, “membership has its privileges,” and that is true at Layton’s Chance, where Gold Leaf members are made to feel as if they are family.

Will you be at the 2020 Tank Tasting? Hope to see you then – if not before!
